Paul Barker is an award-winning composer of many operas, music theatre, theatre, orchestral and concert works, performed at major international festivals, recorded and broadcast on TV. His opera El Gallo(2009) has toured three continents and received over 100 performances by Teatro de Ciertos Habitantes. His concert music reflects his practise that theatre and music are inseparable, for instance his clarinet quintet, In Memoriam: for those who fall in time of war for Joan Lluna and the Brodsky Quartet requires memorising and staging; it has been presented at major festivals in Spain, Holland, Serbia, Mexico and the UK, and been televised. He is currently a Professor of Music Theatre at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.

Paul Barker’s has dedicated this work to Joan Enric Lluna. He performed for the first time as a piece of chamber music in five movements. The great success achieved led him to write the current version with seven movements and you can perform it with small or with large orchestra.

The rest of the concert can be completed with another piece from the period between wars: Mahler 6, Nielsen 4, Shostakovich 7 or 11, Ravel Le tombeu de Couperin, Elgar Spirit of England or others to decide together.

Prova all'italiana!

In 85 minutes we witness the best of Le Nozze di Figaro, with the utmost respect for Mozart's music and for the enjoyment of the comedy. Seven singers are found for the Italian rehearsal of Le Nozze di Figaro unclenching the essence of Comedy ;-)

If you manage a symphony orchestra, this production can be perfectly suited to a week of activity.

Idea, text and theater direction: Paco Mir.
Musical direction: Rubén Gimeno.
